Gary Sheldon, conductor and arranger

BalletMet is proud to welcome Maestro Sheldon as he celebrates his 17th anniversary as guest conductor. He is well-known to central Ohio audiences as the music director of the popular Lancaster Festival which featured BalletMet in the world premiere of the ballet Commedia composed by William Bolcom in 1990. Maestro Sheldon also conducted the Columbus Symphony Orchestra in more than 200 performances as interim music director and associate conductor from 1982 to 1988. He has guest conducted the Norwegian Ballet, BBC Symphony in London, St. Louis Symphony, St. Paul Chamber Orchestra and Sarasota Opera. In 1984 he arranged and orchestrated the ballet Cole for BalletMet, based on the life and music of Cole Porter. His popular young peoples' concert program based on the Carmen Sandiego software game will take him from New York to Hawaii to guest conduct this season. He currently serves as music director for the Marin Symphony in California where he was presented the 1996 Distinguished Citizen of the Year Award from the Marin Cultural Museum.
