Announcing our new Executive Director!

BalletMet is delighted to announce that former BalletMet Board Chair and Ice Miller LLP law partner Sue Porter will become its new Executive Director, effective immediately.

An attorney for 30 years, Porter has been a long time community volunteer and a member of the BalletMet Board of Trustees since 1997.  While on the BalletMet Board, Porter has been Board Chair twice and also chaired the Nutcracker Ball Committee, the Long Range Planning Committee and Co-Chaired two Artistic Director Search Committees.  While on sabbatical from the practice of law, she has been volunteering as BalletMet Interim Executive Director since April.

Porter began her legal career in 1985 with Schottenstein, Zox & Dunn LPA (now Ice Miller LLP) as an associate attorney and later partner in labor and employment law.  During her career she has been recognized as a Leading Lawyer for Business in Chambers USA, as a Best Lawyer in America, an Ohio Super Lawyer, a Top 50 Women Lawyer in Ohio and a Top 25 Women Lawyer in Columbus.  She also received a 40 under Forty Award and a Top Executive Women award from Business First.

BalletMet started its national search for a new Executive Director at the beginning of the year after former Executive Director Cheri Mitchell announced she would leave in the spring.  “We had many outstanding applicants for Executive Director from around the country, but it became clear to the Search Committee that our ideal candidate was right here.  We were lucky enough to convince Sue that she should take a much longer break from the practice of law than she had planned,” said BalletMet Executive Director Search Committee Co-Chair, Mary Duffey.  “Sue knows our organization inside and out and her leadership abilities and her passion for the arts will really help move the organization forward,” added Executive Director Search Committee Co-Chair, Michael Shultz.  “I have been working hard to convince Sue to become Executive Director, and I’m extremely pleased that she has accepted.  She will be the perfect partner with me in helping BalletMet to reach its vision to be recognized as an innovator of dance, embraced by our community and beyond,” said Artistic Director Edwaard Liang.

We hope that you will join with us in welcoming Sue as our new Executive Director.  We look forward to working with her to accomplish our vision to be recognized as an innovator of dance, embraced by our community and beyond.
