PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT FOR CLASSROOM TEACHERS AND TEACHING ARTISTS
The arts do not exist by themselves, but are inextricably linked to our life experiences. Through the arts we can inspire and engage students and the community to discover more about themselves, areas of study and the world. BalletMet's professional development program uses curriculum aligned with the Ohio Department of Education dance and other core subject content standards.

Major Goals
Through instruction, participants will:

  • Inquire into the nature and significance of dance and the artistic process.
  • Explore concepts of curricular and intercurricular instruction through differentiated and cooperative learning.
  • Design and implement lesson plans integrating the arts.
  • Collaborate actively with professional artists.

Morning at the Ballet Workshops
These workshops promote ongoing learning in and through dance while integrating the various Morning at the Ballet programs into school curriculum. Performance-specific lesson plans are provided and modeled. Teachers receive an intimate preview of the Morning at the Ballet work and watch professional dancers from BalletMet at work.

Professional Development in Arts Integration
Funded by the U.S. Department of Education in partnership with Columbus Public Schools and the Greater Columbus Arts Council.
BalletMet Columbus, the Jazz Arts Group, the Greater Columbus Arts Council, Opera Columbus and Columbus Public Schools team together in this year-long program. This unique program demonstrates how the performing arts can be used to enhance student learning through movement/dance, music, drama/theater and visual art.
Participants will:

  • Investigate and discover why the arts have value.
  • Explore concepts of curricular and intercurricular instruction through differentiated and cooperative learning.
  • Design and implement lesson plans integrating the arts.
  • Evaluate student outcomes with a variety of tools.
