Make memories that last a lifetime with the magic and adventure of BalletMet’s The Nutcracker. Journey with Clara and her Nutcracker Prince to the Land of Sweets and indulge in unforgettable characters and choreography, exquisite costumes and scenery and music from the Columbus Symphony, conducted by Luis Biava. BalletMet’s The Nutcracker was co-created by Gerard Charles and Robert Post with choreography by Gerard Charles.
Gerard Charles is ballet master at the Joffrey Ballet. He was formerly BalletMet’s artistic director from 2001 to 2012. The company commissioned more than 60 premieres under Charles and toured in Russia for the first time. Originally from Folkestone, England, he trained with the Royal Ballet School in London and performed with Ballet International in London, Milwaukee Ballet and BalletMet.
Luis Biava is currently music director of the New Albany Symphony Orchestra, Camarata, Opera Libera of Philadelphia and the Metropolitan Chamber Orchestra, as well as principal cello of Columbus Symphony Orchestra. He has been a frequent guest conductor and soloist with the National Symphony of Colombia, the Bogota Philharmonic and the Guatemala National Symphony. He holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan, and bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the Juilliard School. Biava’s family represents four generations of musicians.
Robert Post is a one-man variety show celebrating 40 years in a career that has taken him around the world as an actor, mime, puppeteer, juggler, ventriloquist and stand-up comedian. The New York Times wrote, “Post merits a place on anybody’s all-star team of the goofily gifted.” Mr. Post has performed across the U.S., in Russia, Turkey, Japan, Canada, Mexico, throughout the Mediterranean and at venues including: Broadway’s New Victory Theatre, The Big Break Festival in Moscow, Festival International in Chihuahua in Mexico and New York’s Lincoln Center. He has made three appearances on the TODAY show. Mr. Post has created more than 30 works, for which he has received numerous fellowships and awards, and has directed such diverse art forms as theatre, dance, circus, opera, hip-hop and stand-up comedy. His PBS Special “Robert Post in Performance” won an Emmy for Best Performance Program.
