By 10 she had performed in dozens of shows, plus half a dozen commercials on her resume…at 15 while attending Professional Children’s School in New York, she was accepted and performed with the New York City Center of Music and Drama’s Joffrey ballet company while studying at the School of American Ballet, she received a personal invitation from world – renowned choreographer George Balanchine to join his New York City Ballet at 17 . . . in New York City Ballet, she was privately coached alongside Suzanne Farrell and Gelsey Kirkland by George Balanchine, Jerry Robbins and David Howard, who also served as a mentor for her teacher training…Jilise is referenced in the Balanchine Trust Archive at Harvard, and in the video recordings of Balanchine choreography performed by NYCB for the “Dance in America” series broadcast on PBS . . . at the same time she found herself in the Pilates studio working directly with Romana to strengthen a weak Achilles tendon and a sprained lower back…after only 4 weeks Jilise was back to normal, but acquired a lifelong dedication to the teachings of Joseph Pilates, which has helped her avoid the debilitating physical afflictions that often limit older dancers, and which protection she incorporates into the ballet training for her students. George Balanchine instilled in me as a ballerina in New York City Ballet the dedication and desire to deliver with passion and consistency his philosophy and standard: “See the music, hear the dance”. It is my sincere goal to foster and educate students to be life-long learners of Mr. B’s vision and to become patrons of great music, inspired choreography and “The Arts”.
