Ma Cong, choreographer

Ma Cong joined Tulsa Ballet in 1999 after dancing with the National Ballet of China. Mr. Cong studied at the Beijing Dance Academy, where he received a full scholarship and graduated with honors. The recipient of numerous international competition awards, Mr. Cong's dance career included leading roles in major productions with companies throughout the world. n 2006 he was named one of the "25 to Watch" by Dance Magazine for both dancing and choreography, and he was named by Oklahoma Magazine as one of the state's "40 under 40." The same year he was as invited as a choreographer by Viviana Durante and Luciano Cannito to perform his choreography, Melodia, with Daniela Buson in a Grand Gala for Pesaro International Choreographic Festival. In 2008 he was awarded 1st prize and Audience Favorite in the 21st Century Choreographic Competition. Mr. Cong has created many works for Tulsa Ballet including Folia, Samsara, Blood Rush, and a brand new Carmina Burana for Tulsa Ballet's 50th Anniversary celebration. He has also created works including Within the Bodies, Fragmented Figures, French Twist, and Two of Us for BalletMet, Ballet Des Moines and Ballet Nouveau Colorado.
