Arthur Mitchell, Choreographer

Written in 1979--One of the most dynamic dance figures of our time, Mr. Mitchell's achievements are far too numerous to mention. However, the high points must be brought forth. After a stellar career dancing with the New York City Ballet, he founded the Dance Theatre of Harlem. Through his devotion and energetic hard work this company quickly developed into a major dance attraction of international stature, touring extensively in the United States, the Caribean, Puerto Rico and Europe. As a choreographer, he has made several contributions to the repertoire of his own company. Holberg Suite has now become his own classic. It has been constantly in repertoire since its premiere.
