BalletMet Columbus seeks an Assistant to the Executive Director

This position reports to the BalletMet Columbus Artistic Director.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Ensure that Artistic Director’s calendar and schedules are kept up to date and be proactive in solving any conflicts. Schedule meetings and events for Artistic Director as requested staff, board member and others. BalletMet uses Outlook as its main calendar coordination system.
  • Schedule travel accommodations for the Artistic Director.
  • Filter all phone calls that come in to Artistic Director and communicate all messages appropriately.
  • Execute and archive select contracts.
  • Organize employee reviews.
  • Retain a working knowledge of union agreements.
  • Keep current and accurate track of artistic expenses and assist Artistic Director with other areas of financials as requested.
  • Attend and document meetings for the Artistic Director as needed/ as appropriate.
  • Keep track of Artistic Director’s files.
  • Ensure that Artistic Director is aware of upcoming deadlines and assist in meeting them.
  • Assist with guest hospitality as needed (including transportation on occasion).
  • Communicate with other like companies to ensure best practices within the organization.
  • Assist in any reorganization projects that arise as requested from the Artistic Director.
  • Arrange all logistics for company auditions.
  • Provide ongoing administrative support to the Artistic Director.
  • Act as point person, in conjunction with the Company Manager, for matters involving company dancers and track as necessary.
  • Act as liaison between BalletMet artistic department and OSU Sports Medicine.
  • Maintain BalletMet artistic archives.

Compensation: commensurate with experience.

BalletMet Columbus seeks a Costume Shop Manager - a full time staff position beginning July/August 2014.

This position reports to the BalletMet Columbus Production Manager.

Responsibilities:

  • The Costume Shop Manager plans, manages, supervises and maintains quality control over the operation of the costume shop, overseeing the costume production process from designer's rendering/costume plot to performance.
  • Organize and administrate the Costume Department, including scheduling, coordinating, supervising and evaluating all employees as pertains to the daily functions of the Department.
  • Supervise the construction, alteration, repair, cleaning/maintenance and storage of costumes and the construction or purchase of wigs and theatrical make-up.
  • Is responsible for the maintenance of the costume shop and its inventory. Ensures that costumes maintain their appearance and are appropriately cleaned after productions and the costume shop is maintained in a neat and orderly manner. Promotes preventive maintenance.
  • Oversee management of the costume inventory and rentals.
  • Coordinates costume related needs in the theater including dressing rooms, dressers etc.
  • Is responsible for the Costume Shop budget, purchases, hiring and work schedules, making best efforts to execute all work within budget and on schedule.
  • Works with the Production Manager on all BalletMet productions and production issues.
  • Assists with Academy and educational events as they relate to wardrobe production.
  • Works pro-actively in all matters as they pertain to the Costume Department.
  • Contributes to the overall success of BalletMet Columbus by performing other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Distinguishing Characteristics:

  • Superior knowledge of dance costuming.
  • Knowledge of patterning, draping, fitting, and principles, practices and techniques of costume construction methods.
  • Good organization and problem solving skills.
  • Good interpersonal communication and ability to work as a team player.
  • Computer, and budgeting skills.
  • Knowledge of theater production operations and procedures.
  • Experience in a supervisory capacity.
  • Design experience a plus, but not necessary.

Internships

Marketing Intern

The Marketing and Communications Internship offers an opportunity for students to gain work experience in the field of nonprofit marketing and communications.  The internship is flexible and can be tailored to suite the skills and interests of each intern.  The intern will work closely with the marketing team by assisting with all aspects of planning and promoting professional company performances, Academy dance classes, and educational outreach programs.  Duties will include:


•    Writing articles, press releases and promotional materials

•    Assisting with graphic design projects

•    Maintaining clip files

•    Assisting with special events and promotions including event and volunteer management

•    Assisting with general research and data entry

•    Assisting with mailings and advertising

•    General Organizational Tasks


Internships will require attendance at some company performances and special events on nights and/or weekends for a complete experience.

Unpaid internship with free tickets to BalletMet performances and discounted adult dance classes.  Free parking in private lot.

Stipend available for candidates able to complete a year-long internship (Fall-Winter-Spring quarters).

Some weekend and evening hours are available for events, public speaking, and performance activities

Social Media Marketing Intern

The Marketing Department is actively looking for a marketing intern for Fall-Spring and also individual quarters.

The Marketing and Communications Internship offers an opportunity for a student to gain work experience in the field of nonprofit marketing and communications. The internship is flexible and can be tailored to suite the skills and interests of each intern. The intern will work closely with the marketing team by assisting with promotion of professional dance company performances, Academy dance classes, and educational outreach programs through social media.

Duties will include:

Writing posts, press releases and promotional materials
Analyzing topics and statistical info
Assisting with special events and promotions including event and volunteer management
Assisting with the creation of social media planning, ROI, & timelines
Hours: Flexible. Internships will require attendance at some company performances and special events on nights and/or weekends for a complete experience.

Compensation: This is an unpaid internship.  Intern will receive four free tickets to the Nutcracker and two free tickets to all other performances in the season.

Ticket Services Intern

Summary

The Ticket Services Intern assists in the daily operations of the ticket office including helping customers, data entry and assisting with reports. An opportunity to develop strong customer service, communication and computer skills. The intern will learn many facets of Ticketmaster ticketing system and Raisers Edge.

Areas of involvement

  • Selling single and season tickets
  • Preparing daily deposits and reports
  • Preparing sales reports
  • Subscriber ticket exchanges
  • Setting up accounts in Ticketmaster
  • Entering data in Raiser’s Edge
  • Group sales information gathering
  • Group sales mailings

Hours: Most weeks will include hours within: Mon. – Fri. 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Other weekend and evening hours are available for on-site performance ticket sales experience.
