Sophie joined BalletMet, last season, at age 17, and is grateful to have performed iconic roles such as JULIET, Romeo & Juliet, Balcony Scene; CLARA, The Nutcracker; PEASANT PAS & ZULMA (Willies soloist), Giselle; and Contemporary Ballets by Liang, Balanchine, and Robbins!
Now in her 2nd season, Sophie is excited to continue her artistic growth here in Columbus with Mr. Edwaard Liang and the inspiring Staff & Artists of BalletMet. Sophie’s Pre-Professional training was under Magaly Suarez, Director of The Art of Classical Ballet in Pompano Beach, Florida. As a young dancer in Michigan, Sophie honed her performance skills as a convention/competition kid who also loved every second of ballet technique & coaching from Master Ballet teachers: Meg Paul and Valentina Barsukova. Her contemporary training was directed by Liz Schmidt-Mazurkiewicz, Spotlight Dance Works, culminating in Sophie being named the Jr. National Outstanding Dancer, New York City Dance Alliance, and invited to assist for their National Convention Tour, 2013-2014.
Sophie performed in numerous international ballet competitions where she received feedback from esteemed Ballet Masters & Adjudicators. In 2017, she earned the GOLD MEDAL & 1st Place, at the World Ballet Competition, and performed in Beijing at the China IBCC where she earned the MORNING STAR FOUNDATION Award. Sophie was also a top 3 Scholarship winner, at the National Society of Arts & Letters, 2017 En Pointe Classical Ballet Competition. In 2015, Sophie traveled to Havana, Cuba for their IBC & Festival where she earned the 1st Place, GOLD MEDAL. She also received the Director’s LEGACY AWARD & 1st Place, at the Universal Ballet Competition 2015. Sophie’s YAGP performances earned the YOUTH GRAND PRIX AWARD 2014 (Semi-finals) and 1st Place: Pas De Deux 2015 & 2016, Jr. Contemporary 2015, Sr. Classical 2016. While training with Magaly Suarez, Sophie was named a Zarelywear “Rising Star” and a GaynorMinden “GaynorGirl”. In addition, she appeared as a Guest Artist with Dance Dimensions Theatre of Miami, performing choreography by Septime Webre and Tara Lee. She performed The Nutcracker Grand Pas, Snow Pas De Deux, and Dew Drop Fairy roles as a Guest Artist for the Miami Youth Ballet and Florida Classical Ballet, 2016.
