A Letter from BalletMet

Dear Columbus,

We wanted to let you know that our Artistic Director Edwaard Liang has accepted an offer from The Washington Ballet (located in Washington, DC) to become its new Artistic Director effective July 2024.  The Washington Ballet has a 75-year history of bringing classical and contemporary ballet to the Washington, DC community often performing at the Kennedy Center.

Over the last 11 seasons, Edwaard has brought his amazing artistic vision to our studios, our stages and the rest of our community.  With his leadership, we adopted our vision to create and foster world-class art and artists to inspire Columbus and beyond.  The record audiences who were able to see our On Stage performances over the last two weeks could see that our vision is a reality.

Edwaard has worked tirelessly with all parts of our organization to make sure that we are poised to have a bright future and will continue to work with us over the rest of the season to ensure a smooth transition. Board Chair Herb Bresler has asked former Board Chair Susan Douglass to chair a search committee to find our next Artistic Director. That committee will start to work immediately with hopes to find someone by next summer.

We plan to spend the rest of the season celebrating Edwaard’s legacy and working together to build our future.

Thank you for all you do to support BalletMet.

Board Chair Herb Bresler, Artistic Director Edwaard Liang, and Executive Director Sue Porter
