Sarah Ramey

In Motion

Sarah Ramey is a choreographer, performer and teacher focused on building community through dancing and dance-making. Originally from just outside Baltimore, Maryland, Sarah now makes her home in Columbus, Ohio with her husband and daughter. Her approach to teaching and art-making is influenced by her time as a dancer and choreographer with Liz Lerman Dance Exchange, a Washington, DC based intergenerational dance company whose members ranged in age from mid-20s to mid-70s. With Dance Exchange, she originated roles in new work and toured extensively with the company to perform, teach, and create dances with people of all ages and backgrounds. Her choreographic work has been presented at venues including The Kennedy Center, The Bealtaine Festival (Ireland), Dance Place (DC) and the Wexner Center for the Arts (OH). In 2015, with funding from an Albert Schweitzer Fellowship, she created a dance program called In Motion: Movement Class for Adults Over 50. This program cultivates strength, flexibility, coordination and creativity in an older adult population through weekly dance classes and field trips to see local dance performances. In 2018, In Motion moved to BalletMet and has expanded to include dance workshops in retirement communities. Sarah received her BA in Dance from the University of Maryland, College Park, and her MFA in Dance from The Ohio State University.
