Remembering Anne Melvin

We were so saddened to hear of the passing of BalletMet’s dear friend Anne Melvin. As noted in Anne’s obituary, her fondest dream was for Columbus to have a vibrant arts community, and she did many things to make that dream a reality.

She gave generously of her time, talent and resources. Many will remember her special presentation at our board retreat or her joy in watching BalletMet perform, especially to live music. She did not miss a performance of Twisted 2.

She and her late husband Noel underwrote Artistic Director Edwaard Liang’s works in his first season, and at that time she wrote the following:

“We have followed this amazing Ballet company from its inception. Its gradual, but so steady growth has been inspiring. The staff and volunteers have had a vision that ,in spite of all odds, has been followed and executed with excellence and fiscal integrity. What a bright star they have been in our arts community!

Having Edwaard Liang now as its new Artistic Director, BalletMet has embraced both an amazing dancer and brilliant choreographer. This has inspired us to underwrite the first production Edwaard has choreographed specifically for this company.

We do this not just to salute the beauty and creativity of dance, but with the hope that other individuals will understand and appreciate their ability to honor and support BalletMet by underwriting new productions. For this company now to flourish and continue to enrich the life of our community, bold new initiatives must be taken. Please join us this year. It is appropriate to see these gifts as new soaring leaps of faith and lifts of dazzling generosity filled with personal rewards and joy!”
