Meet the Characters of Sleeping Beauty

Meet all of the characters from Sleeping Beauty!

Get to know the characters from the ballet Sleeping Beauty. The original production, choreographed by Marius Petipa, premiered in St. Petersburg in 1890 and featured an original score by Pyotr Tchaikovsky. The production was based off of the fairytale “The Sleeping Beauty in the Wood” and features a collection of colorful and memorable characters, such as Puss in Boots, that have inspired films and stories of their own.

Aurora (Sleeping Beauty)

Aurora, the main character of Sleeping Beauty, is cursed by the evil fairy Carabosse to sleep for 100 years as revenge. She can only be awakened by true love’s kiss.

Prince Desiré

Prince Desiré is the Lilac Fairy’s godson. After Aurora is cursed to sleep and 100 years have passed, he finds himself entranced by a vision of Aurora, travels to her castle and awakens her with true love’s kiss.

Carabosse (aka the Evil Fairy)

The Evil Fairy, Carabosse, curses Aurora as an act of revenge against the King and Queen for mistakenly not inviting her to Aurora’s christening. Carabosse disguises herself as a potential suitor during Aurora’s 16th birthday celebrations and gives her a gift that causes her to prick her finger and fall into a 100-year-long slumber.

The White Cat, Puss in Boots, The Enchanted Princess (aka Princess Florine), and Bluebird

The White Cat, Puss in Boots, Enchanted Princess, and Bluebird are all characters from the fairytale land where Aurora lives. They travel far and wide to come to the castle for Aurora and Prince Desiré’s wedding festivities.

The Fairies

In the fairytale land of Sleeping Beauty, there are many fairies who watch over the kingdom and have special powers. For example, the Fairy of Generosity and the Fair of Beauty.
